Event Rules


These rules are designed to keep racing fair, safe, and fun for everyone. By entering, all riders and guardians agree to follow the rules and the directions of officials. Participation in the Pirelli MiniGP Series is subject to the Terms & Conditions set by the organisers. These include legal disclaimers, privacy policies, cancellation terms, and consent to drug/alcohol testing. Riders and guardians must read and accept the Terms & Conditions as part of the registration process.

Licensing

All competitors ride/take part in the event at their own risk.

Riders entering a competition race class must have an MNZ License or undergone a MiniGP Academy License assessment and hold a MiniGP Academy Passport. These must be produced at sign - on.

Entry into race classes is age-based, but riders may be permitted to enter a class above or below their age if they have parent or guardian approval and are deemed suitable by the event organiser.

Ages eligable for entry are:

Non- Competition Class 6+

110cc Junior Competition Class 7yo - 10yo

150/160cc Junior Competition Class 11yo - 15yo

Senior Competition Class 16+


General Eligibility

Participation is open to Delirio, Ohvale, Bucci, YCF, GRC, Kayo MR150 brands only. No custom-built machines allowed.

Riders under 18 must have a parent or guardian present at sign-on and for any briefings, protests, or discussions regarding penalties or infringements.

All riders are required to complete bike and gear safety checks before entering the track, and new riders may be asked to complete an observed practice session prior to racing.


Rider Safety & Gear

All gear must be in good condition and pass inspection.

Helmet: Full-face, meeting AS/NZS, ECE, Snell, or FIM standards; undamaged; less than 10 years old.

Leathers: One- or two-piece suit.

Back protector: EN1621-2 mandatory.

Chest protector: EN1621-3 recommended (mandatory for juniors).

Gloves: Gloves must be in good condition, free from tears or holes that may compromise safety. A secure retaining strap is required to ensure proper fit at all times.

Boots: Racing boots covering ankle, structurally sound.

Juniors: Chest protector mandatory, neck brace recommended.


Riding Standards & Conduct

Throughout the event, riders must remain in control and demonstrate safe, sportsmanlike behaviour. Dangerous riding, deliberate contact, or unsportsmanlike conduct may result in penalties or disqualification. Overtaking must be executed cleanly and without interfering with other competitors.

Competition Classes

*110cc Junior Competition Class 7–10-year-old Capacity up to 110cc, air- or liquid-cooled, four-stroke; Automatic

*150/160cc Junior Competition Class 11 – 15-year-old Capacity up to 160cc, air- or liquid-cooled, four-stroke; Manual

*150/160cc Senior Competition Class 16+ Capacity up to 160cc, air- or liquid-cooled, four-stroke; Manual

*190cc Open Competition Class 16+ Capacity up to 190cc, air- or liquid-cooled, four-stroke; Manual

Non-Competition Classes

*110cc Automatic Capacity up to 110cc, air- or liquid-cooled, four-stroke; Automatic or semi-automatic

*150/160cc Manual Capacity up to 160cc, air- or liquid-cooled, four-stroke; Manual

The Clerk of the Course may merge classes if the number of entrants present at the start, or other conditions, warrant doing so. In the event that race classes are combined, the Clerk of the Course will actively monitor rider performance throughout the meeting.

Briefing

A compulsory riders’ briefing will be held at every event. Attendance is mandatory; missing the briefing may result in penalties. In special cases, Officials may grant a waiver.

Participation

A rider is considered to have taken part in the event once they have completed at least one practice session. A rider is considered to have started a race once they have completed at least the first lap.

Starts

Races begin with a standing start following the sighting lap. When lights are used, the race starts when the lights go out. If a rider stalls or has a problem, they must stay on their bike, raise an arm to signal, and wait for assistance.

For events using a flag start, a red flag will be shown and then removed. The starting flag will be held overhead in a stationary position, and the race will begin when the flag is dropped. Any rider who is late to the start must begin the race from pit lane.

Junior Starts: One helper allowed on the grid; no physical push after start.

Flags & Signals Riders must obey all flag, light, and board signals. Ignoring a flag may result in a penalty or disqualification. Green flag: Track clear.

White Flag: Last lap

Chequered flag (black/white): End of race or practice.

Stationary Yellow flag: Danger ahead – Keep your eye open for something not right. riders must slow down and no overtaking.

**Waved Yellow flag: ** Serious Danger ahead – could be debris, a bike or a human on track. Again, riders must slow down and no overtaking.

Red flag: Race or practice stopped – riders must return slowly to the pits.

Black flag with orange disc: Mechanical issue – rider must leave track immediately; re-entry only with official approval.

Blue flag: Rider is about to be overtaken – hold line and allow faster riders through.

Stoppages Restart if <50% distance completed; results declared if >50% complete. Race Direction, in consultation with the organisers, may alter start schedules for safety or weather.

Pit Lane 20 km/h limit, no overtaking, helmets on at all times.


Series Points & Classification

Scoring: 25–1 points for top 20; all finishers receive at least 1 point. Standings: All races count; possible drop round if 5+ rounds are held. Tie-breaks: Most wins, then placings, then final round score.

1st Place = 25 Points, 2nd Place = 20 Points, 3rd Place = 16 Points, 4th Place = 13 Points, 5th Place = 11 Points, 6th Place = 10 Points, 7th Place = 9 Points, 8th Place = 8 Points, 9th Place = 7 Points, 10th Place = 6 Points, 11th Place = 5 Points, 12th Place = 4 Points, 13th Place = 3 Points, 14th Place = 2 Points, 15th - 20th Place = 1 Point.

Points awarded separately by class.


Penalties & Protests

Penalties may include: Warning, time penalty, ride-through, grid penalty, disqualification, exclusion, suspension.

Offences include: Jump start, ignoring flags, dangerous riding, illegal machine, abuse of officials/riders.

Protests must be in writing within 30 minutes, with $50 fee (refunded if upheld).

Appeals: Written within 30 minutes to Series Director. The Director’s decision is final.
